Tools

  • Software Used : Autodesk 3ds Max
  • Render Engine : V-ray 5
  • Plugins : Quixel Bridge, Itoo Forest Pack, Phoenix FD

Notable Techniques

  • Itoo Forest Pack was used to organically distribute forest trees, grasses, shoreline vegetation, and rocks with a natural randomness, including the fully 3D-created background forest without the use of any photo backplates.
  • Phoenix FD was utilized to simulate the lake surface realistically
  • Phoenix FD Smoke simulation created the volumetric background fog
  • V-Ray Blend Material was applied for moss transitions on the vertical wooden posts of the pier
  • HDRI-based lighting setup ensured natural reflections and atmospheric consistency

The Lake House scene highlights a natural and tranquil setting, brought to life through procedural distribution and fluid simulation. A combination of Forest Pack and detailed scatter maps ensured a highly realistic and randomized layout for trees, grasses, rocks, and shoreline foliage.

The lake surface was generated using Phoenix FD, enabling fluid motion and light interaction consistent with a calm body of water. Atmospheric fog in the distance was also created with Phoenix Smoke Simulation, enriching the depth and ambiance of the environment.

A subtle yet effective technique was applied to the vertical wooden beams of the pier, where a V-Ray Blend Material was used to simulate natural moss and waterline wear, adding authenticity to the scene’s interaction with the environment.
